The actress, 24, arrived at the Beverly Hills courthouse in a motorcade to a crush of photographers and reporters. Somebody threw confetti toward her as she walked up the steps. One fan held a sign reading, “Free Lindsay.”

During a brief hearing, Judge Marsha Revel said, “At this time, she will be remanded to serve her sentence.” Lohan stood, looking stern, and was cuffed behind her back. She was escorted quietly out a side door by four sheriff’s deputies.

As she left the courtroom, her father Michael Lohan said, “We love you, Lindsay.” Her mother Dina also was in court.

Within minutes, she was whisked out of the courtroom, placed in the backseat of an unmarked silver sheriff’s car and driven toward the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., where she previously served 84 minutes in 2007.

Despite the three-month sentence, legal experts say Lohan will probably serve between two weeks to a month due to the Sheriff’s Department’s long-standing policy of releasing nonviolent offenders early due to overcrowding.

L.A. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore has said Lohan would likely be segregated from the general population “for her protection as well as the jail staff.” Most inmates’ daily routine at the jail includes a 5 a.m. wake-up call and being kept in a 12-by-8 cell for 22 hours a day, except for one hour of recreation time and 20 minutes per meal.

Lohan was sentenced July 6 after a judge ruled she had violated probation in a DUI case by missing court-ordered weekly alcohol-education classes. She’s spent the past few days in a sober-living house, but left with her mother and friend Samantha Ronson around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

In addition to the jail sentence and another three months in an inpatient rehab facility, Lohan will have to stay sober for the next year. Judge Revel’s sentencing order specifies the actress will be randomly tested for drugs and alcohol until August 2011, when her probation term is over.

When veteran comedian Joan Rivers took to Twitter to go off on Lindsay Lohan, the star’s ex-girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, came to her defense.

The 77-year-old had joked: “Lindsay Lohan said she wouldn’t mind being under oath because she thought Oath was a Norwegian ski instructor.”

“Lindsay Lohan is so dumb. Her idea of being sworn in is cursing at the judge. I was reading about the Lindsay Lohan diet … all liquid. 80 Proof.”

Those were pretty good. But SamRo was not pleased.

“Hey Joan Rivers you have collagen older than Lindsay, pick on someone your own age, oh wait, I guess people that old can’t hear,” she Tweeted.

Lindsay Lohan, who dated Sam for over a year, thanked her ex for defending her, tweeting: ‘@samantharonson thank you I love yams x’.

The alleged actress was recently sentenced to 90 days in jail by a judge in Beverly Hills for violating her probation and must surrender July 20.

Since the judge laid the smack down last week, Lindsay has been seen out and about with mom Dina, sister Ali and “close friend” Eilat Anschel.

Lohan appeared relatively upbeat, saying “thank you” when a passer-by gave her some words of encouragement, but Dina admits she’s scared.

Sources say she plans to appeal the sentence, but given her track record with probation and the fact that she’s totally guilty, that’s a stretch.

It looks like the whiner is headed to jail for at least part of the 90-day term, and shouldn’t expect a lot of sympathy from Rivers, who writes:

“Lindsay Lohan had “F**k You” painted on her nails. What people don’t know is that the judge had ‘Eat me you party skank’ painted on hers.”

Lindsay Lohan’s close friends are concerned about her going to jail.

Not on moral grounds or anything like that. They’re just worried the train wreck won’t survive a day without the one thing she can’t live without … cigarettes.

Lohan is likely to do time at the same all-female facility where Paris Hilton was locked up in ‘07, and the place has a serious zero tolerance no-smoking policy.

Bad news for Lindsay.

She’s a “serious chain-smoker,” blowing through at least two packs a day. “The first thing she does when she wakes up is light a cigarette,” a friend says.

SMOKED: Lindsay Lohan must surrender July 20 to begin her 90-day jail sentence. Maybe she can draft up a legal manifesto to score some cigarettes in the slammer?

The source adds, “I’m honestly scared for [Lindsay] … I don’t think she’s gone a day without smoking in years. This isn’t something she can stop overnight.”

“It’s a serious condition.”

We’d feel bad, except had she not displayed the worst possible attitude, acting like a spoiled brat who is somehow above the law, while flat-out ignoring very reasonable probation terms, she’d be free to smoke all day on the outside.

Just saying. It’s her fault.

The upside is that if she goes to the Lynwood facility July 20, as expected, it could actually lead to her kicking the habit, if she’s willing to put in the effort.

Don’t hold your breath.

Judge Marsha Revel sentenced the troubled star to 90 days in jail after ruling that she violated the terms of her probation in her 2007 DUI and drug case by failing to promptly attend court-mandated weekly alcohol education classes and submit to random drug tests, all the while showing little respect for the court.

“She knew [the prosecutor] would be asking for jail time and yet still after all that, she didn’t comply with the court order and the court does find her in violation of her probation,” Revel said at today’s probation-violating hearing.

The 90 days stems from the 30 days possible for each of Lohan’s original infractions: her two DUIs and a count of reckless driving.

The judge also ordered Lohan to complete a 90-day inpatient substance abuse program after she’s out of jail. She must refrain from drinking alcohol and submit to random drug-testing, plus her probation has been kicked up a notch to “formal probation” and she has two days to report for duty.

Lohan burst into tears upon hearing her fate, as did sister Ali sitting toward the back of the courtoom.

She was ordered to report to the courthouse by July 20 at 8:30 a.m. to begin serving her term at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. She will also be required to wear her SCRAM bracelet until then.

“Nowhere did I say substantial compliance would be good enough,” added Revel. “Because had I known then [that Lindsay was not in compliance], we would’ve had this hearing a lot sooner.”

Revel noted that Lindsay’s had a history of noncompliance and “ongoing excuses.”

“She had to go once a week,” the judge said.  “I ordered her to do it and I couldn’t be more clear and it wasn’t done.”

Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, told the court in closing arguments that the thespian believed she was living up to the terms of her probation and that Right On, the program she was enrolled in, had given her the go-ahead to miss various sessions as long as she made them up.

“We’ve acknowledged the violation. We’ve always acknowledged the violation,” the legal eagle said, noting that officials at Right On, the program Lohan’s enrolled in, allowed her absences of up to 21 days.

“It’s evident that she has taken the [program] seriously as she’s going to be finished with the program by the end of this week,” added Holley.  “It’s clear she’s made a significant change and is doing well. She completed the program except for three AA meetings.”

Throwing herself on the mercy of the court, Lohan herself tearfully addressed the judge directly before sentencing.

“I just wanted to take a minute to say that as far as I know I was being in compliance with my program. When I asked to leave town, they would give me permission to leave town. I wasn’t expecting any special treatment aside from the understanding that I have to provide for myself, I have to work,” said Lohan.

After acknowledging that Right On allowed her time off for various jobs, she choked up as she explained she did her best to balance her career and her probation obligations.

“I’m not taking this as a joke. It’s my life and career. I’ve learned from my experiences, I take responsibility for my actions,” added Lindsay, bursting into tears. “Honestly, it did wake me up. Yes, of course it scared me. Also it confused me because I thought it was OK to miss those classes. Had I known…I would’ve made sure I was in town each week.

“It’s just been such a long haul and I don’t want you to think I don’t respect you on your terms because I really did think I was doing what I was supposed to do,” she said in conclusion.

Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers wasn’t buying the contrition act.

“You have not caught her attention. When the defendant was ordered to be here in [May], she was in France and didn’t come back to this court,” said the prosecutor. “I would ask the court to have her continue to wear the [SCRAM] device until she’s compliant.”

Neither did the judge.

“She knew it, so the court doesn’t buy that at this time,” Revel said.

Holley noted that Lohan is due to finish her original alcohol-education program by July 16.

Meanwhile, even if Lohan ends up serving only about 25 percent of her sentence, due to L.A. County protocol concerning nonviolent female offenders charged with misdemeanors, it’ll be some major time served compared with the 84 minutes she spent locked up in 2007.

It looks like Lindsay Lohan has a new girlfriend, and you’d better not mess with the troubled actress now, because her girl will totally whomp your a$$!

Eilat Anschel, a former member of the Israeli Defense Force, met Lindsay a while back in L.A., and has been spotted with the train wreck a bunch lately.

Lindsay and Eilat, who completed her mandatory stint in the Israeli army, have been “getting pretty serious” over the last month, according to reports.

One source says the head case began using Eilat Anschel as a “shoulder to cry on” during the probation / bail / ankle monitor drama, then things evolved.

Pretty much how it always happens.

So all is right with the world of LiLo, right? Wrong. People close to her say that the struggling celeb, who just turned 24, is falling too hard, too fast.

Lohan was most recently linked to photographer Indrani and famously dated / had nuclear fights with Samantha Ronson for an extended period of time.

Will the fire for this newfound female love interest last?

We’d further criticize her lifestyle, clubbing nightly and such, and/or point out that this is destined to fail, but we don’t wanna get on Eilat’s bad side.
